GPU Optical

Welcome to GPU Optical

GPU Optical is a company based in Hungary, developing, producing and marketing high quality optics (especially APO lenses and telescopes) for amateur astronomers.
The company is 100% hungarian owned and our products are developed and manufactured exclusively within the European Union, in Hungary. There are no exceptions: all the optical materials and the optical- and mechanical manufacturing of our products are 100% made in the European Union.

What Makes Us Different?

Unfortunately, we believe that most scopes today are designed by opticians who are not actually using telescopes under the stars. For this reason, they optimize their designs for the maximum theoretical optical performance, so these products provide excellent measurement data when tested in a laboratory. The problem comes when an amateur astronomer takes the scope outside, into a really "hostile" evironment, where the temperature is constantly changing, wind is blowing, vibrations and gravitational forces are deforming the optics, thermal expansion is deforming the OTA and the lens itself, and the optics that were tested "perfect" in the lab - well - they get in "trouble" under the stars.
Can today's scopes preserve their excellent optical performance under the stars, when they suffer from many disturbing effects from the environment? A very difficult question!
As a result of the previous example, we will build telescopes that are not designed by opticians, but by an expert (Mr. Pal Gyulai) who also have a deep knowledge of all physical effects that modify the performance of an optical system under the stars. Only by taking into account a wider range of working conditions can we design lenses and scopes that can fully deliver their optical capabilities during the actual observing session. So, we believe, the perfectly designed optical system is the one that gives stunning images of the heavens - and not the one that only delivers nice interferograms in the lab, but an imperfect image at the field.
To express this, we have chosen the following motto for our company:
"Optics designed to perform under the stars"
Another aspect of our market phylosophy to "tell the customer exactly what he or she is about to buy". For this reason, we publish all the measurement data and results of computer simulations about our lenses: spot diagrams for individual wavelengths and all wavelengths combined, both on the optical axis and at different angles, Optical Path Difference diagrams and Strehl ratios and PV values for many wavelengths.
