Repairing Damaged opticsA telescope, expecially an APO refractor is a long term investment. Our lenses are build in oil immersion triplet configuration, the expensive and sensitive fluoro-crown glass is sandwiched between two members made of very hard optical glasses. This is a durable construction, but there is always some chance for an accident to happen.Less serious accidents usually affects only the first optical surface of the lens (deep scratches, etc), in most of the cases other members of the lens are not damaged. In such cases we are happy to help our customers by repairing the damaged lens member if possible, or if necessary, by completely replacing it. This service costs only a fragment of the price of the lens, and we guarantee that the re-built lens will have identical performance to a brand new one, as we apply the same quality control rules to the repaired lenses that we apply to our new products. We are also happy to help in the case of more serious accidents, e.g. when some lens members completely break into pieces and/or the lens cell is seriously damaged. Even if the cell must be cut into pieces (naturally with special care) to remove the remnants of the lens, we will do it. (This usually happens when a telescope is in the boot of a car during a traffic accident.) In such cases, please, send some digital photos to us and also some words describing the condition of the lens/telescope and we will decide together with the customer how to restore the scope. We can re-build the lens assembly or even the complete scope, and the price will be very reasonable. |
